We try to hold events all around the county and encourage members to take advantage of as many events as you can. If there isn’t anything near you we may be able to arrange a lift or perhaps you’d like to suggest or help organise something near you. Here are all the events we have coming up soon. We’ve included a handy calendar for your notice board on the back page.
Family and Friends Gatherings
These take place approximately every 6 weeks, Saturdays 2-4pm Walsworth Road Baptist Church Hall, Walsworth Road, Hitchin, SG4 9SP. The whole family is welcome and there are books to borrow and refreshments as well as crafts and games for the children. We welcome babies as well as older children and occasionally have visiting professionals too. January 30th – Winter pictures (next year’s Christmas card designs!) Training Workshop: Numeracy and the Use of ICT
Christina Singh, former LEA Adviser on Down’s Syndrome and consultant to the Down’s Syndrome Association will deliver the session. £15 parents and £20 professionals. Taster Boxing Session
Enzo Vullo is working with Up on Downs & offering a free taster session of non-contact boxing, specifically for children with Down’s Syndrome and their siblings. Awareness Week Coffee Morning
2 Bedwell Park, Stevenage, Herts SG1 1NB Bring friends, family and children for drinks, cakes & fun, as we mark Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week with our big coffee morning. Spring Trip to Willows Farm May 16th . Booking forms will be sent to members. Downs Early Development Group
Applecroft Children’s Centre, Applecroft Road, Welwyn Garden City, Herts AL8 6JZ. Enrolment is open, unlimited and free. There is a nursery-style curriculum and specialist resources. General Special Needs Drop-In
This is a drop-in for families of children 0-4 with a wide range of special needs organised by Alban Way Children’s Centre’s Marian LeBlond, who is also an Up on Downs Speech therapy assistant. Speech Therapy Groups Various times and locations.
These are subsidised groups run by our trained therapist and assistants on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at a variety of locations in the county. Availability varies according to the age and level of the participating children and the number of children currently in each group (maximum 4).
